Meet the Founder

Andrew Berens, MS, GISP

Berens GIS was founded by Andrew Berens, a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP #160724) with over a decade of high-level geospatial expertise spanning federal, state, and local sectors.

Andrew’s career has focused on designing spatial data systems and analytics platforms that inform high-stakes decision-making:

  • Federal Health Systems (CDC / ATSDR): Served as an Informatics Health Scientist and Senior GIS Coordinator, helping build and maintain national visualization platforms across CDC and co-managing the largest ArcGIS Enterprise deployment at the agency: CDC OneMap.

  • State Public Health Infrastructure: Led spatial data governance and analytics initiatives for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and engineered one of the nation's first state-level COVID-19 dashboards for the Louisiana Department of Health in March 2020.

  • Academic Leadership: Taught graduate and undergraduate GIS and data analytics courses at Georgia State University and LSU Health Sciences Center, helping train the next generation of spatial analysts.

With advanced degrees in Geography (B.S., Arizona State University) and Geosciences (M.S., Georgia State University), Andrew brings senior-level technical depth directly to every Berens GIS client—delivering dedicated, highly responsive consulting without the overhead of larger agencies.
